Question: How long do your candles burn?

Answer:

Question: Why don't you use hidden gemstones in your candles? I've seen other people sell them and they look so cool!

Answer: Yes, it's a pretty cool concept, but there are quite a few reasons why this is just a bad idea:

  1. Fire Hazard:

    • Placing gemstones or any foreign objects inside a candle poses a fire hazard. As the candle burns, the heat can cause the gemstones to heat up, potentially leading to cracking or shattering. This creates a risk of fire or injury.
  2. Uneven Burning:

    • The presence of hidden gemstones may disrupt the even burning of the candle. As the candle wax melts, it might not flow properly around the gemstone, causing uneven burning. This can result in a diminished scent throw and overall poor candle performance.
  3. Toxic Fumes:

    • Some gemstones can contain minerals that release toxic fumes when heated. When these fumes are released into the air, they pose health risks to those inhaling them. Certain gemstones may contain elements that, when burned, produce harmful substances.
  4. Safety Concerns During Use:

    • When the candle has burned down, and the gemstone is revealed, users may not be aware of the hidden object. This poses a risk, as the gemstone could be hot and cause burns if touched. Users might not anticipate the presence of a solid object within the candle.
  5. Quality of Gemstones:

    • The quality of gemstones used in candles can vary. Low-quality gemstones may contain impurities or fractures that can be exacerbated by the heat of the burning candle. This can lead to the gemstone breaking apart or releasing undesirable substances.

Question: Why do you only use soy wax for your candles?

Answer: Soy wax is often considered a popular and preferable choice for candle making due to several reasons, making it potentially better to burn than other waxes. Here are some advantages of soy wax:

  1. Renewable and Sustainable:

    • Soy wax is derived from soybeans, which are a renewable resource. This makes it a more environmentally friendly option compared to paraffin wax, which is derived from non-renewable petroleum.
  2. Biodegradable:

    • Soy wax is biodegradable, meaning it breaks down naturally, making it less harmful to the environment compared to paraffin wax, which is not biodegradable.
  3. Cleaner Burn:

    • Soy wax burns more cleanly than paraffin wax. It produces fewer pollutants and less soot, leading to a healthier and cleaner indoor air quality.
  4. Longer Burn Time:

    • Soy candles typically have a longer burn time than candles made from other waxes, such as paraffin. This means you get more hours of fragrance and ambiance for your money.
  5. Lower Burning Temperature:

    • Soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax. This results in a cooler burning temperature, reducing the risk of burns and making it safer for handling.
  6. Even Wax Distribution:

    • Soy wax has excellent scent throw, meaning it can distribute fragrance more evenly throughout a room. This is due to its ability to hold and release essential oils effectively.
  7. Support for Agriculture:

    • Purchasing soy products, including soy candles, supports soybean farmers and the agricultural industry, contributing to a more sustainable and diverse economy.
  8. No Toxins:

    • Soy wax is a natural product and does not release toxins when burned. In contrast, some other waxes, such as paraffin, may release potentially harmful chemicals into the air.
  9. Easy Cleanup:

    • Soy wax is easy to clean up with soap and water, making it more convenient for accidental spills or when cleaning candle holders.
  10. Biodegradable Packaging Options:

    • Many soy candle makers also choose environmentally friendly packaging, further reducing the overall environmental impact of the product.

While soy wax has numerous advantages, it's essential to note that individual preferences vary, and other wax types, such as beeswax or coconut wax, also have their unique benefits. Ultimately, the choice of wax may depend on personal preferences, sustainability values, and desired qualities in a candle.

And please, please remember to always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for safe candle use and consult safety standards to ensure the well-being of yourself and others.
